Staffers of
The Flock & Ang Kawan, Good Shepherd Cathedral School’s official student publications, participated in the 2024 Division Secondary Schools Press Conference (DSSPC) which runs from February 3, 10, and 14, 2024.
With the theme of “The Role of Campus Journalism in Fostering DepEd MATATAG; Addressing Literacy, Chartering a New Path”, DSSPC 2024 is being held at Quirino High School, with the attendance of 72 public and private schools and at least 3,000 campus journalists from Quezon City’s six districts. Today, the participants competed in 20 different individual categories.
The Opening Ceremony started with the introduction of each of the participating districts, alongside intermission numbers and an orientation on the guidelines and judges of the contests. Quezon City Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Carleen S. Sedilla, delivered her opening remarks and challenged all the participants to do their best to make it to the Nationals. Meanwhile, MJ Felipe, ABS-CBN’s entertainment journalist, served as keynote speaker where he shared his own journey as a journalist.
Prior to the contest, participating journalists went through a 2-week intensive training for preparations. With the guidance of the school paper coordinator, Mr. Marco Paolo Lovendino, and the school paper advisers, Mrs. Dearna Losauro and Bb. Jenina Pacleb, the staffers practiced their journalistic abilities.
This year marked the second time that GSCS partook in the DepEd-organized journalism competition, having started with The Flock & Ang Kawan’s predecessor, The Shepherd’s Herald, last DSSPC 2023.
On February 14, five delegates will represent GSCS as they return to Quirino High School for the awarding ceremonies, hopeful that they will take home awards, and advance to the Regional Schools Press Conference.
